Lan Kwai Fong Loves Late Night Bites

Lan Kwai Fong Loves Late Night Bites

It’s Friday in Lan Kwai Fong and it’s late. Actually, it’s early. The music is winding down in the clubs, but you don’t care. The street, which was heaving just a few hours ago, is finally starting to quiet down. And that can only mean one thing: it’s time for food.
It’s a truth universally acknowledged that food tastes the absolute best after a long night out. Whether it’s chips, pizza, kebab or even sushi – there’s something magical about a 3am carbo-load. We spoke to some Lan Kwai Fong regulars to find out their favourite late-night bites.

Employees Only

Truffle grilled cheese from Employees Only Hong Kong
“My favourite place for late night food in Lan Kwai Fong is, hands down, Employees Only. The grilled cheese there is my standard half-cut grub, with a few too many of Jameel’s daiquiris on the side. I’ve been part of the furniture at Employees Only since it opened last summer and adore it. It’s home, family, fun and degeneracy rolled into one. I have so many memories there, some that should not shared…but one of the best was shutting the place down at 9am on New Year’s Day morning. That was my most brutal hangover to date.”  – Holly Graham

Tenkei

Maguro Avocado from Tenkei
“Tenkei! It’s a Japanese Izakaya that’s open late. I think of it as Japanese tapas, the dishes are best shared! They only opened last month, but I’ve been finding myself going back to order the Maguro Avocado and Aburi Hamachi. Would definitely recommend the Matcha Churros as well, which are served with a Japanese gin-infused white chocolate sauce. We were ordering drinks and saw one of their cocktails named "Breakfast at Kiffany's" and thought it was a typo. Which we learned from the bartender that it was a reference to the movie "Breakfast at Tiffany's" as the cocktail is a breakfast martini. And the name was changed to "Kiffany" who was the bartender's friend that looks exactly like the actress in the movie. Always interesting to learn how cocktails are named!” – Yumi Win

Up 9

Up 9 serves the best secret momos in Lan Kwai Fong
“Up 9 are the best momos in Lan Kwai Fong! I’ve been going for almost two-and-a-half years, since I first arrived in Hong Kong. It’s in the same building as Brasa, but it’s a bit hidden. Order the chilli momo and the pani puri!” – Axel Gonzalez

Ebeneezer's

A kebab from Ebeneezer's
“It’s a little-known gem in Lan Kwai Fong, I almost don’t want to share this too widely. It’s totally hidden, and secretive. An intimate Turkish place, rumour has it the chef is from a three-starred restaurant but got tired of the that life. So now he’s in Hong Kong, enjoying the simple things, like garlic mayo in a squeeze bottle and falafel. But he’s still fancy, you can get mixed kebabs: not just chicken, not just beef, but both!”—Caitlyn Meyer
