Open Air Moulin Rouge? What to do in Hong Kong This January 2020

The best events happening in the 852 this month

It’s time to kick off the new month, new year and new decade in style. January tends to be a slightly slower month in Hong Kong, a welcome respite from the chaos of Christmas and the impending rush of Chinese New Year. So, take advantage of the quiet moments by planning out your month carefully, and getting in all that #selfcare you’ve been putting off.

When you’re ready to venture out into the city, here are the events you don’t want to miss.

Star Wars with the HK Philharmonic Orchestra

If you can’t get enough of the galaxy far, far away, then you need to grab tickets to this concert fast. Australian conductor Benjamin Northey comes back to Hong Kong to guide the Philharmonic Orchestra through the iconic soundtrack of Return of the Jedi. The orchestra will be playing alongside the film screening, so you can enjoy John William’s score like never before.

Star Wars: Return of the Jedi in Concert is being performed at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall 4-5 of January. Tickets start at HK$380. For more information, visit their website here.

Dogathon 2020

Grab your four-legged friends and get ready to do walk for a cause at this year’s Dogathon, held at Hong Kong Disneyland. For it’s 34th iteration, the SPCA’s annual charity dog walk is embracing the theme of “12 Zodiac Animals Walk Together”. The theme is meant to inspire us to protect all animals and help to find every pup in the city a loving home. This year P Jai the Shiba Inu will be leading the event, dressing up as all 12 of the zodiac animals. You’re welcome to create your own canine costumes too and enjoy a day out at Hong Kong Disneyland. There will be loads of activities, including a handicraft market, agility games, dog training and more – making this a fabulous day out for a very worthy cause.

Dogathon 2020 is happening at Hong Kong Disneyland on 5 January, 2020. Enrolment starts at HK$238. Find out more information and register your place, here.

Lewis Capaldi

The internet’s favourite singer is coming to Hong Kong this month, kicking off the first of the 2020 Clockenflap Presents concerts. The singer-songwriter was last in the city in 2017 when he played at Clockenflap, and now he’s back for one night only. Grab your tickets so you can sing along to his smash hits like ‘Someone You Loved’, ‘Hold Me While You Wait’, ‘Before You Go’ and ‘Bruises’. For anyone going through a bit of heartbreak, this promises to be a very cathartic concert. And, knowing Capaldi, probably hilarious as well.

Lewis Capaldi is performing at Macpherson Stadium on 12 January, 2020. Tickets start at HK$490. For more information and to buy tickets, click here.
