The Ultimate Guide to LKF For Tourists

The Ultimate Guide to LKF For Tourists

Whether you’re visiting friends or exploring the 852 solo, Lan Kwai Fong has to be on your itinerary.

Years ago, Lan Kwai Fong was just a humble street, home to matchmakers and a flower market. Over the years, it has transformed into the buzziest district in Hong Kong, with the hottest nightclubs and chicest venues in the city. Basically, if you don’t come to Lan Kwai Fong, you haven’t really done Hong Kong.

This compact maze of streets, right outside Central MTR Exit D2, is a must-visit for anyone coming to the 852. From cool coffee spots to hip clubs, Michelin-starred venues and more, everything you need is right here in Lan Kwai Fong.

Morning

The best holidays start with one thing: a lie in. After that, it’s a great breakfast. Lan Kwai Fong is home to a number of mouth-watering, jealousy-inspiring, dream-making brunches and breakfast spots. FUMI has just launched an incredible new Sunday Brunch Buffet that we highly recommend, but you can also check out all of the delicious brunches happening at California Tower every weekend right here. If you’re just in the mood for something quick, try Coffee Academics for your caffeine hit. Whether you like it short and black, or tall and milky, they’ll make your dream brew.

Afternoon

With your caffeine fix or brunch cravings sorted, it’s time for a different kind of indulgence. Get tressed like a local at one of the most old-school spots in Hong Kong: The Mandarin Oriental. This iconic hotel is known for its old-world elegance, and while rooms can cost a small fortune, their salons are much more affordable. Ladies can enjoy The Mandarin Salon with stunning views over the Harbour, while the gents can retire to The Mandarin Barber for a luxurious wet-shave and the best cut in town. If you’re looking for something different, check out our favourite salons for men and women and book your appointment today. If you’re feet are sore from exploring, a quick foot massage is just what you need. Head to Gao’s for an hour-long foot massage and hot tea. Sit back, relax, and enjoy life as a Hong Konger.

If you’re feeling a little peckish after your pampering, try a bit of dim sum at the old-school Luk Yu Tea House. For roast goose, you can’t beat Yung Kee on Wellington Street. In fact, you can get a HK$500 dine-in cash coupon for a discount price right here.

Late Afternoon

Work off your dim sum and goose with a stroll around the area. Pottinger Street is a local favourite, and the go-to spot in town for crazy costumes and decorations. The wild stalls are Instagram gold, too. You can also check out Li Yuen Street East and Yi Yuen Street West, hot destinations for souvenirs and affordable clothing. Don’t forget to reward yourself with a classic Hong Kong snack: a creamy egg tart. Tai Cheong Bakery is the best place around, with a perfectly flaky crust and a just-set centre. It’s right up the famous Pottinger Street steps too, and you can get special deals on egg tart sets right here.

Evening

You came, you saw, you ate, you shopped. Now all that’s left is to sip (and maybe eat some more…). Lan Kwai Fong has no shortage of incredible cocktail bars to while away the evening while you work up an appetite. For a truly Hong Kong experience, head to Duddell’s for a botanical-inspired option best savored in the cool comfort of their lush outdoor salon. Once the sun starts to set, head over to Skydeck for the best view of the sunset over the famous Hong Kong skyline.

A night in Hong Kong isn’t complete without dinner. We recommend Buenos Aires Polo Club, a handsome Argentinian steakhouse with a great bar and the best service in town. Trust us, their bacon will change your life. For lighter fare, try Kyoto Joe or Tokyo Joe – two of our favourite Japanese spots.

Late Night

One for the road? J. Boroski will make a drink based on your personal preference. Employees Only is open until the wee hours (and even serves food!). The Envoy has a great outdoors area. How about a cocktail at Stockton’s, a comfortable, snug of a bar? For a true Lan Kwai Fong experience, walk around the area and check out some of our incredible clubs. Rúla Búla is a tried-and-true classic for songs you can sing along too. Dragon-I is where the fashion-set goes to party, and Volar is one of the best spots for real dance music in the city.

No matter the choice, here’s to your health or, as we say in Hong Kong “yam sing”.
