Where to Find the Best Doughnuts in Hong Kong

Round, sweet and our favourite little treat – the 852 loves a doughnut!

America celebrated National Doughnut day (or as they spell it, National Donut Day) last month. But it doesn’t seem right that they get to have all the fried-dough fun. So in honour of that most momentous of national holidays, we’ve rounded up the best places for a doughnut in Hong Kong.

Bakehouse

We love supporting independently owned shops, and Bakehouse is one of our absolute favourites. This artisan bakery was opened by Gregoire Michaud, who has worked in some of the finest hotels in the world. It hasn’t had a slow day since it opened, and on the weekends,  you can expect to queue for a table. And for good reason – everything is delicious, especially their rotating selection of doughnuts. The chocolate hazelnut ones are a guaranteed crowd pleaser.

J.CO

One of Indonesia’s most beloved franchises, J.Co has found a cult following in Hong Kong too. With three locations, Wan Chai, Mongkok and Tseung Kwan O, this doughnut dealership is supplying Hong Kong with all the sugar rushes it can handle. With over 20 distinct flavours to choose from, there’s something for everyone here. They even make tiny ones that are perfect for sharing!

Marks & Spencer

When in doubt, M&S it out. The Central location, just off the escalators, is perfect for a mid-afternoon doughnut craving. That’s right, the British export has more than just affordable cheese and delicious scones. Head to their bakery section and pick out a sweet, chocolate frosted doughnut (or two) and you can thank us later. Delicious and convenient, what could be better?

The Mandarin Cake Shop

Sometimes, nothing beats a classic doughnut. And when that craving hit, no where does it better than the Mandarin Cake Shop. For over 45 years, this beautiful patisserie has been churning out some of the city’s best pastries, and their doughnuts are no exception. Of course, you must try their famous Strawberry Jam doughnut, but they often have cronuts (a decadent croissant – doughnut hybrid) that are worth trying too! Just look at that snap by @mskluender.
