Speed Rack Asia pits the best against the best, and only one will be crowned the winner

Speed Rack is finally coming to Hong Kong this month. The global competition, which has found success in America, Canada, England, Singapore and Australia, brings the best female bartenders in the region together in the name of charity.

For the first ever Hong Kong competition, 16 of Asia’s most talented bartenders will compete at Duddell’s for the ultimate title of Miss Speed Rack Asia 2019. It’s a round-robin style competition that raises money for the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation.

Founded by veteran bartenders Lynette Marrero and Ivy Mix, Speed Rack shifts the focus onto the talented ladies behind the bar. The ones that can shake up a perfect martini and mix a Manhattan, while pouring a flawless Singapore Sling. The ones that live and breathe the bar, and always know what will raise your spirits. In short, the GOATs.

This year bartenders from Macau, China, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam and Indonesia will compete. A panel of industry legends, including Hong Kong’s own Charlene Dawes (of Ori-gin, Room 309, VEA and The Envoy fame) will judge the competitors speed and aptitude.

The fastest eight competitors will fight for the crown in a series of instant elimination rounds. The judges can request any of 50 classic cocktails, and points will be earned for skill, speed and presentation. Finally, it will be down to just two women, competing cocktail-for-cocktail to be named Miss Speed Rack Asia 2019.

Interested in getting involved? Well, nominations are closed for competitors – but you can still be a part of the action. This year’s finalists will be competing in front of a live audience at Duddell’s on 27 October, 2019. Eight of Hong Kong’s own will be competing, representing The Sea by the Old Man, Te Pontiac, Draftland, Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong, The Old Man, The Pontiac, Le Petite Maison and Honi Honi Tiki Lounge. Grab a ticket before they’re gone and cheer on your favourite bartenders! What could be better than a sporting evening of cocktails, nibbles and charity? Tickets are on sale now.
