Ever wondered what the meaning of ‘white hot’ is? Well, walk into Preset and find out. The just-opened dual-floor event space / coffee bar / wine bar is the innovative brainchild of Hong Kong duo “Twins Kitchens”. And it’s bringing Hong Kong into 2018, keeping with the biggest trend of the year: retail-dining hybrids.
The premise is simple: Preset is a permanent pop-up. Brands can take up a residence in the downstairs event space for up to a month, using it as a way to get up close and personal with their customers. Upstairs, the food area – aka ‘Interval’ will run specials related to the ever-changing occupants, in addition to their regular coffees and wine selection.
If you're wondering about the unusual names, Preset (which is the entire space) and Interval (the upstairs dining area), they're theatre terms. Preset is the theatre term Preset’ is a theatrical term that describes the process of placing all props, lighting, and set pieces in the right locations before a performance begins,” says Caleb, “we want to be able to set the perfect stage for brands to shine.” Interval, of course, is the much-needed break between acts; a time to refresh and reflect before the next story is told.
Illuminated by brass detailing and loads of natural light, it’s somehow minimalist and opulent at the same. Designer Keith Chan from Hintego designed the space to be timeless, yet ever evolving. It is made from three main materials: brass, which will oxidize and develop into a richer hue, a white algae paint from Japan made from soil and grass, and marble. In short, it’s great for snapping a few #InstaPerfect shots.
It’s the perfect place for a midday coffee break with friends or clients, or an after-work tipple or three. And, you’ll always be kept up to date on the latest happenings in the fashion world!
