DJ Roy C. Malig
DJ ViBAHoLICS spinning his set
One of Hong Kong’s original DJs, DJ Roy C. Malig (a.k.a. ViBAHolics) was spinning at Club 97 when your parents were still cool. These days, he plays his eclectic tunes around town at CÉ LA VI, The Music Room, MO Bar and Dr Fern’s. His schedule is always changing, but it’s worth a little extra effort to find him so you can dance to his retro-grooves and soulful tunes. Find out our interview with DJ Roy C. DJ Broadback
DJ Broadback lives a double life. By night, he’s a popular disc jockey, but by day he’s the Creative Director at Kith&Kin Studios. Needless to say, he’s a busy man. But he always has time for music. “I’ve been DJ-ing for half my life, and I’ve been exposed to many styles and genres in that time. So, my style really depends on my mood, the time of day and the venue I play at.” You can find him at Drop every Saturday from 11pm, where he’ll be spinning funky house, deep house and techno all night. Keep an ear open for Hang up Your Hang Ups by Paul Woolford ft. Kim English – it’s Broadback’s favourite tune of the summer.

DJ Ignotus
DJ Ignotus (aka Waleed Waseem) is one of Lan Kwai Fong’s roving DJs. He is Vault Hong Kong’s resident spinner four nights a week, and he occasionally pops in to play at Chi Chi Cham and Buenos Aires Rock Club. “I play a mix of house and hip hop,” he tells us. “But I try my best to push old school music as much as I can, instead of playing the same thing every other bar is playing.” He plays open format and tries to make sure there’s a song for everyone in his sets. Right now, he can’t get enough of Chris Lake’s song Turn Off the Lights. Check him out at Vault Hong Kong, every Wednesday – Saturday from 11pm – 2am.

DJ Daryll
DJ Daryll
Daryll Griggs, or DJ Daryll as he’s better known, is another musical man-about-town. Playing at Volar, Lily & Bloom and even CÉ LA VI, his sets are as diverse as his locations. He switches it up between classics, Motown, funk, trap and EDM depending on the venue, though he admits he feels more at home playing hip hop, R&B and tropical house. His favourite track right now is Deeper by the House Gospel Choir, Mnek and Riton, and you can catch him Wednesdays and Saturdays at Volar, Thursdays and Fridays at Lily & Bloom and Sundays at CÉ LA VI Hong Kong.

DJ Gruv
DJ Gruv
DJ Gruv calls himself a musical chameleon because he can change his style quickly to match the scene. “I love scanning the crowd to see how they’re responding to the vibes. From there, I can curate the atmosphere of the party on the spot!” On Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, he plays golden-era hip-hop, RnB, soul, funk and disco at Tazmania Ballroom. On Saturday’s, he spins classic hip-hop, RnB and “reggaeton with a hint of Bollywood” at Lily & Bloom.  He’s currently got Soul Divide’s Let it be Me (original mix) on replay – and so should you.
