Where to Celebrate International Women’s Day in Hong Kong

Honour women and work for a gender-balanced world this March, and these restaurants and bars

March 8th is celebrated around the world as International Women’s Day, and this year’s theme is #BalanceforBetter, encouraging people to call for a more gender-balanced world. A balanced world is a better world, and we are delighted to see some of our favourite Hong Kong restaurants and bars supporting this cause.

Tate Dining Room & Bar

One of Hong Kong’s leading chefs, Vicky Lau, has unveiled a series of exciting culinary events for this International Women’s Day. Lau is known as a culinary artist, and always striving to find new ways to present her French-Chinese fare, and now she’s using that creativity for a number of exciting events. First, she’ll be hosting a private International Women’s Day cooking class at V-ZUG Hong Kong. A rare opportunity to learn three beautiful dishes, and indulge in a glass of Ruinart Blanc de Blancs while you’re at it. All proceeds from the class will be donated to The Women’s Foundation, a non-profit organisation dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls in Hong Kong through research, impactful community programs and education and advocacy of the empowerment of the female voice.
 
Later that evening, Lau’s one Michelin-starred TATE Dining Room with pair up with The Old Man (currently ranked at no. 10 on World’s 50 Best Bars). Chef Vicky will work alongside bartender Natalie Lau to create an exclusive 8-course cocktail-paired dinner menu, and 15 per cent of the proceeds will be donated to The Women’s Foundation.

The Private Charity Cooking Class is held from 11am – 2pm on 8 March, 2019. For bookings, contact V-Zug Hong Kong or TATE Dining room. The class is priced at HK$2,500 per student.

The eight-course cocktail pairing dinner is priced at HK$1,680 per guest, with an additional HK$480 for the cocktail pairing.

Stockton

Across town, Stockton is celebrating women with a special Women for Women evening, featuring three incredible female mixologists: Arlene Wong (The Pontiac), Michelle Ki (Chihuly Lounge, Singapore) and Yana Kamaruddin (Atlas, Singapore). These talented bartenders will be serving up an exclusive, one-night-only menu of specialty cocktails to benefit Enrich HK, a charity that promotes the economic empowerment of migrant domestic workers. All women who arrive between 7 – 8 pm will receive a token for one complementary drink and 10 per cent of each purchased drink will be donated to Enrich HK. Old Bailey

Female-founded JIA Group is throwing a Happy Hour that’s by girls, for everyone to enjoy. Head to Old Bailey this International Women’s Day to catch Hong Kong’s leading bartenders and industry faces behind the bar, like Holly Graham (DRiNK Magazine), Masumi Tomioka (Duddell’s), Annie Simpson (Sassy Hong Kong) and Chanel Adams (PDT). Proceeds from the event are going to Playtao Education Foundation and HATCH, two community empowerment portolios from Social Ventures Hong Kong.
