A Day for the Dogs

Grab your pooch and head to Ovolo Southside later this month for an adorable ‘pawty’ in celebration of International Dog Day. For a few precious hours, the hotel is going to the dogs – in the best way possible, of course. Bring your pooches down for a Doggy Brunch on Komune’s iconic terrace. It’s BYOB (build your own doggy bowl) and includes a dog-friendly cocktail, as any good brunch should. There is brunch for humans too, so feel free to grab a few two-legged friends to join you! Ovolo recently announced that their Hong Kong and Australian hotels are all dog-friendly. If you don’t have a pooch of our own, come down on 26 August, 2019 to meet the hotel’s canine ambassadors – they’ll happily accept as many scratches as you can give.

HAZAMA A Space Between

Whitestone Gallery is hosting the first Hong Kong solo exhibition of famed Japanese artist Ryotaro Muramatsu, of the Tokyo-based creative company NAKED Inc. The upcoming exhibition will include so many different mediums and styles, it might feel like a miniature Art Central. It features six new series of works, including interactive multimedia and project mapping, all exploring the potential of cutting-edge digital technology as an art medium. Muramatsu seeks to find a way to blend technology with philosophy and nature, finding balance between the etherial and technical. Does he do it? Find out for yourself at Whitestone Gallery this month.

002 Ryotaro Muramatsu / NAKED runs 16 August – 22 September, 2019 at Whitestone Gallery Hong Kong.

A Fook’ing Good Birthday

Time goes by far too quickly. It seems like years can pass in the blink of an eye, and before you know it your babies are all grown up. That’s how we feel about our favourite funky Chinese kitchen, which turns five this month. That’s right, Ho Lee Fook has been gracing our senses with their over-the-top décor and outrageously good dishes for five years now, and that’s something to celebrate. The restaurant is throwing a week long celebration to mark the occasion, including a cooks series with visiting chefs (including Australian favourite Dan Hong), a hip-hop party and a greatest hits menu. If there are two things this restaurant does better than anyone else, it’s crazy late night parties and delicious food, so be sure to stop by this week and wish their iconic lucky cats a happy birthday!

Ho Lee Fook’s fifth anniversary celebrations run from 27-31 August, 2019. For more information visit holeefook.com
