Pont Des Arts Collaborates with Famous Artists to Create Wines You’ve Never Had Before

There’s nothing quite like the combination of a genius work of art and a fine wine — they complement each other perfectly. Perhaps it’s the fact that both take a lot of imagination and craftsmanship to create, which makes us appreciate it that much more. That might as well be the reason why Pont Des Arts (translated: bridge of arts) has come to existence, bringing exquisite wines together with magnificent art. Collaborating with some of the most prestigious artists the world has ever known, they offer an exclusive collection of French wine from Burgundy and Bordeaux, adorned with eye-catching artworks.

Working with the world-renowned Chinese-French artist Zao Wou-Ki for their first series of wines, each bottle becomes a collector’s item and allows you to discover the evolution of his artistry. The Bejing-born artist is considered one of the most succesful Chinese painters during his lifetime. He relocated to Paris with his wife in 1948 and the beautiful city served as a huge inspiration for Zao. His works with ink are a blend of modern Western influences mixed with a rediscovery and reconciliation of Chinese art.

Pouilly-Fuissé
pouilly fuisse
Considered the “King” of Mâconnais, this Chardonnay owes its complex palate to the diverse soils in the wine region. The Pouilly-Fuissé offers an elegant sip with a creamy, delicate and enduring finish. Not sure how to enjoy this wine? Serve it between 11 to 13°C but not without decanting it one hour before. As for the artwork, this watercolour on paper is one of his most recent works. As Zao Wou-Ki enjoyed painting outdoors in his later years, Untitled – 2007 is the perfect reflection of the artist’s immersion into nature.

Nuits Saint Georges
nuits saint georges
Exactly what you’d expect from a Burgundy wine, the Nuits-Saint-Georges is robust, full-bodied, elegant yet fresh. With an aroma of cherry, strawberry and blackcurrant, it’s as pleasurable for the scent as it is for your palate. As the wine matures, it will develop beautiful notes of leather, truffle and macerated fruits. Decant the wine two hours before serving, at a temperature of 15 to 16°C. Enriched with Le vent pousse la mer – 2004, this bottle is a must-have for any art enthusiast. The small boat within this triptych represents Zao Wou-Ki’s comeback to figurative art, which he had given up in 1954.

Côte de Nuits
Côte de Nuits
Known for the purity of its limestone and considered the home of Pinot Noir in Burgundy, this Côte de Nuits wine has a brilliance that indicates the greatness of acidity and structure. While the balance of red fruits and warm spices create a fragrant bouquet, just one sip will present a powerful, complex and elegant palate you’ll adore. For the best experience, decant the wine one hour before and serve it between 13 to 14°C. The artwork Untitled (Sacré Coeur Church – Paris) – 1948 was painted on his arrival in Paris and, in his eyes, serves as a manifesto; from the Western-style church to the stylization of the trees.

Rive Droite
Rive Droite
Consisting of 90% old vines Merlot, the Bordeaux Rive Droite has hints of blackberry and wild strawberries that create a perfect balance between the notes of dark chocolate and spices. When served between 16 to 17°C, after decanting it for two hours, you’ll discover the elegance and infinity that makes this wine truly unique. Just like the wine itself, the artwork makes a powerful statement. Zao Wou-Ki’s 18.12.59 – 1959 is an abstract painting that transforms objects and signs into masses of palpable tensions, creating a new style of work.

Sauvignon Blanc
sauvignon blanc
Straight out of Bordeaux, the Sauvignon Blanc is carefully selected, creating a fresh and elegant wine that reveals an aroma of lime, peach and grapefruit. With a richness and perfectly balanced palate, this vintage offers an unforgettable lingering finish. Although we know you can’t wait to sip on this fine wine, you’ll get the most out of it when served at a temperature of 12 to 13°C. Inspired by nature, Saint-Tropez – 2007 is a testament to the fact that sometimes, we should just forget about the rules and let the excitement of a new experience take over.

Rive Gauche
rive gauche
An exceptionally elegant and sophisticated wine, the Rive Gauche consists of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot and 12% Petit Verdot, representing the wonderful grapes of Haut-Médoc in Bordeaux. The bouquet of dried cherries, wild berries and vanilla aromas creates a generous wine that keeps on giving — with every sip. Get the most out of this precious wine by decanting it for two hours and serving it at 16 to 17°C. The composition and colours of Zao Wou-Ki’s Red Earth (Terre Rouge) – 16.01.2005, are evident of the artist’s sense of freedom. Liberated from tradition and conquering new territories, this powerful work of art allows you to see the bright blue sky beyond the thunder.
