5 Beautiful Beaches in Hong Kong

Find out the best spots to laze by the shore this summer!

Long summer days are perfect for so many things, but nothing is as sweet as a day at the beach. Hong Kong has over 100 beaches, so it can be daunting to find the right one for your tanning session. Some are far and remote, others are close and crowded, but they each offer something uniquely beautiful.

Read on to find out our five favourite beaches in Hong Kong, for your next summer outing.

Tai Long Wan

Tai Long Wan is a remote (and mostly pristine) bay comprised of four different beaches. The most famous of which is Ham Tin, which is nestled between jungle and mountains. Even better – it has amenities like a restaurant, snack stall, bathroom and a spot to grab camping gear. You can hike your way here or jump on a little speedboat at the Sai Kung docks.

Repulse Bay

This is the easy option, for those days when you want to soak up the sun, but can’t be bothered with a long, hot hike. When that happens, just grab your blanket and hail a cab—from Central, it’s just a 15-minute drive. Escaping to the beach has never been easier. Once you’re there, you can lie out on the sand, or hit up one of the restaurants and bars at The Pulse. We can never resist the margaritas at Limewood.

Shek O

Another quick taxi ride (assuming there’s no traffic), Shek O is a great option for lazy weekends. We love that you can rent a locker for the day to keep your valuables safe, and stock up on your beach supplies at the nearby market. You can even rent body boards and floaties, to make the beach that little bit better. A short walk from the main area is Rocky Bay, or ‘Back Beach’. It’s a little bit more secluded and a great place to let your pooch run free while you relax with a beer from Ben’s Back Beach Bar.

Tung Ping Chau

If you really need to get away, we recommend getting an early start and heading out to Tung Ping Chau. The furthest east of Hong Kong’s islands has so much to offer those willing to make the trek. Made entirely of sedimentary rocks, it’s fascinating both above and below the water. It’s part of Hong Kong’s UNESCO Global Geopark and even has some beautiful coral to check out. There are plenty of hikes to take around here too!

Turtle Cove

This is a favourite destination for junk boats, but you can get there by land too! It’s south of Tai Tam Reservoir, so it’s just far enough away to keep the masses out. Bring your own supplies and snacks, because there won’t be anything there except for clean water and a beautiful expanse of beach all to yourself. Be warned: it’s about 200 steps to the beach, but it’s worth it!
