Black Sheep Restaurants’ newest creation is this super chic, casual taco spot inspired by taquerias of Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas. Here it’s not just about good food, it’s about a good time – and a great margarita. Come with friends and feast on as many tacos as you can. We love the classic crispy fish with cabbage slaw and the sweet-and-savoury fish al pastor, made with achiote chili, pineapple and crispy bacon.

Brickhouse

Brickhouse Taco

We love Brickhouse, and we’re not shy about it. It’s one of the best date-night spots in town, and they make a mean margarita too! The vibe here is great, of course, and the tacos are even better. The late-night Mexican restaurant and bar has options to suite every palate, but still maintain that authentic flavour. Served on gluten-free tortillas, you can’t go wrong with any of their tacos. In fact, you might as well just order the Taco Platter so you can try five at once (we vote for the Wagyu Lookin’ At, with Wagyu beef cheek, and the Piggie Smalls with achiote pork belly and roasted pineapple).

Chino

There’s a delicious lesson to be learned at this Kennedy Town favourite. And that lesson is simple: not all tacos are Mexican! Here, they offer up a mouth-watering fusion of Japanese and Mexican flavours that are just short of addicting. We’re talking Wagyu beef with shishito, crispy fish with a Chipotle Kewpie mayo sauce and more. Come hungry, you’re going to need a lot of tacos.

11 Westside

The only thing better than a celebrity chef is one that serves up fresh tacos with handmade tortillas. And you can find it all at 11 Westside. Spearheaded by Chef Esdras Ochoa (aka Los Angeles’ “Taco King” and the heart-throb from Netflix’s The Final Table), this is one of the places to be for serious tacos lovers. Everyone raves about their tableside guacamole (which is delicious, by the way), but respect the tacos – because the corn tortillas are freshly made seconds before you eat them, and filled high with authentic flavours like salsa molcajete and super succulent meats. This one’s a little hard to find, but it’s worth it. They have eight different tacos to choose from, but we always go for the Mango Shrimp and the Carnitas because we have favourites.

Los Sotano

Tacos and tequila go together like, well, tacos and tequila. They’re a perfect pairing, and no where does it better than our favourite basement bar, Los Sotano. Chef Abel Ortiz, who came from Central restaurant in Peru – the fourth best restaurant in the world! – cooks up some seriously delicious “street tacos”. Some are classics that you know, like an Al Pastor with spit roasted pork shoulder and grilled pineapple, while others are more creative. We can’t wait to try the Lobster Drunk on Tequila, which is exactly what is sounds like (Avion tequila marinated lobster) and guacamole.
