It’s been a good year for music for Hong Kong. The 852 has hosted BLACKPINK, BTS, SG Lewis, Troye Sivan and Dean Fujioka, just to name a few. And next month, we’re welcoming yet another internationally acclaimed group to our fair city: Kraftwerk.

The immersive electro-pop band are returning to Hong Kong for their 3-D Show on 29 April, 2019. The one-night-only event is a true “Gesamtkunstwerk” as they’d say in their native Germany. It means total work of art, which perfectly describes Kraftwerk’s style of blending music and performance art.

Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider formed the multi-media project in Düsseldorf in 1970, and they’re now considered to be two of the founders of the genre. Their group was one of the first to transform digital sounds, like synthesizers and drum machines, into music, and their “robot pop” style has influenced generations of artists over the years.

The group is so revered, some have claimed Kraftwerk is almost as influential as The Beatles! In 2014, the Grammy’s agreed, because they bestowed the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award on the band. They won another Grammy just last year for “3-D The Catalogue”, a high-tech recreation of their back albums.

They introduced the performance in 2012 at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. It was such a success, they took it to the Tate Modern in London, Akasaka Blitz in Tokyo, the Sydney Opera House, Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, and venues in Paris, Berlin and Bilbao.
