The Best 5 Comfort Foods in Lan Kwai Fong

Everyone knows food is more than sustenance. It’s a hobby, a passion, a sport (sometimes, though we wouldn’t recommend it) and above all – it’s a comfort.

Everyone’s idea of comfort food is different, of course, but Lan Kwai Fong has enough options to cater to the pickiest of eaters, from mac & cheese to fried chicken. Here’s our list of the top five comfort food dishes in Lan Kwai Fong.

Don’t ask us what it is, but there’s something about pizza… it’s just the most perfect food. Those round disks of happiness know exactly how to raise our spirits, whether we’re suffering from a heartache, or just too many tequila shots. Ciao Ciao is our go-to, right at the bottom of California Tower. It’s casual, no frills and absolutely delicious, made with the best ingredients and cooked in the traditional Neapolitan style. Go for the Marinara if you’re playing it safe, with San Marzano tomato, garlic, oregano and extra-virgin olive oil; or live a little and try the Prosciutto e Rucola, with a rich tomato base, mozzarella, Prosciutto di Parma, ‘Nduja Calabrese, Calabrese salami and a hit of chili oil.

Your seven-year-old self was right – you should eat mac & cheese every day! There’s nothing wrong with getting a little ‘string out’ on the cheese, especially when you’re at Lily & Bloom – they even have a special section of the lunch buffet dedicated to it in all its glory. Go for dinner, and treat yourself to the ridiculous, Insta-worthy Lobster Mac n’ Cheese. It’s loaded with fresh, juicy lobster, cognac, basil bread crumbs and three different types of cheese.

Mercato Hong Kong

Nothing says comfort food like freshly made pasta. If you didn’t get a chance to grow up with a proper Italian nonna, Mercato is the next best thing. The restaurant, founded by famed chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, is the place to carbo-load your soul. The Rigatoni and Meatballs with a smoked chili tomato ragu is failsafe, as is the lobster and shrimp ravioli. Manga!

Its name means ‘pearl’, but you don’t have to dress up fancy to come here! Roll up to this modern Korean eatery any day or night to have your fill of their famous Jinjuu Tong Dak, a whole Korean fried chicken. Made with Australian, free-range chicken, it’s battered and fried to the perfect crispy brown, and served with pickled radish, roasted corn salsa, Korean Caesar salad and their two signature sauces: Jinjuu Black Soy & Chili Red. They say it serves four, but if you really need some proper comfort food this is dinner for one!
