five best events september 2018 hong kong
We already told you where to go to get the best Mid-Autumn Festival mooncakes in Hong Kong, now let us tell you where to go to celebrate. Tai Hang, of course, for the legendary Fire Dragon dance. Fair warning: it will be packed, but it’s worth it. The tradition goes back to the 1800s, when the people of Tai Hang first began performing the ritual to protect their village from bad luck. Now, it’s an iconic part of Hong Kong’s Mid-Autumn Festival rituals. A huge 67-metre dragon covered in incense sticks chases two ‘pearls’ (incense-laden pomelos) around the park. It requires roughly 300 performers and 24,000 incense sticks per night to do.

When: 23 – 25 September, 2018
Where: Tai Hang, Causeway Bay
Ticket info: Free to the public, but get their early and try to grab a spot on Wun Sha Street for the best view
