They say the veil is thinning and the spirits walk amongst us every All Hallows Eve… Well, we don’t know about all that, but we do know that Halloween is one of the best times to party in Lan Kwai Fong.
This year, Hong Kong's favourite party district will be transformed into a haunted Japanese world of yokai, complete with lanterns, crows and monsters. If you’re unfamiliar, the yokai are supernatural monsters, spirits and demons found in Japanese folklore. They can be malevolent, mischievous, or (in a few very rare cases) helpful… but we wouldn’t count on that. If you're still looking for your Halloween costume, check out our 6 Easy Makeup Looks, to find out how to make a frightfully quick yokai look for Halloween night.
We searched high and low for the best events of the season, so you don’t miss out on a thing. We found everything from full-out galas to relaxed children’s parties and even a “recovery brunch” or two. There’s no excuse not to get spooky this season!
Honi Honi Tiki Cocktail Lounge
Hong Kong’s favourite Tiki lounge invites you to join the land of the dead this Halloween, as Baron Samedi makes a Voodoo come back for one night only. Dress in your undead best- they recommend you channel the Baron himself, or his sultry lover Madame Brigette, but any Day of the Dead character is welcome. There’s no fee to get in, but if you reserve a table you’ll get free tiki shots. And they’ll be offering 50% off of their Tales of Tiki cocktail menu, and 20% off of all other drinks– nothing spooky about that.

Our favourite bar is celebrating Hong Kong with a night dedicated to our favourite film. Stockton’s is pairing their ‘Minds Undone’ cocktail menu, which celebrates famous authors of the past, with a Dead Poet Society party. Sip on a macabre cocktail and let the poetry overtake you. The best Halloween costume will win an incredible HK$5,000 gift card to any Maximal venue—all ou have to do is visit the bar between 26 – 31 October and get your photo taken by one of the ghouls behind the bar. As John Keating (aka the late, great Robin Williams) said in the film, “Carpe diem. Seize the day, boys. Make your lives extraordinary.” And the best way to start an extraordinary life is with an exemplary cocktail.
