5 Reasons Why We Love The Asia Contemporary Art Show

Calling all art lovers the  Asia Contemporary Art Show returns to the Conrad Hotel in Hong Kong for the thirteenth edition in a row. One of the most exciting events of the year, it’s worth clearing your diary for a few days to make sure you see it all. Happening this September, the Asia Contemporary Art Show is featuring over 80 galleries and their works across four floors of the hotel, making it a can’t miss art-event of the year.

We love when it comes through town, and here we listed five reasons why you will to.

It’s the Longest Running Hotel Art Show in Asia
As the most successful event of its kind in the region, the Asia Contemporary Art Show attracts the best artists and galleries from around the world. Year after year, you’ll be able to watch styles and trends evolve, and even befriend some of the creators themselves. Expert tip: give yourself a few hours to explore it all, there’s over 2,000 pieces to see!

Over 20 Different Countries Are Represented
From Australian Aboriginal dot art that tells the sacred stories of their people, to modern takes on Japanese ceramic and even French surrealism, the displayed art is as diverse as the nations represented. Every room you walk into is a different world that transcends space, transporting you to China or Peru or Austria, where artists are creating and innovating in completely new ways.

This Year Focuses on South Korea
The world has fallen in love with South Korea, and the Asia Contemporary Art Show is celebrating that fact with all things Korean. They are introducing two special sectors: Intersections: South Korea and Artist Dialogues presented by Cask 88. They’ll feature work from over 70 South Korean artists, showing the wide array of influences on country including Confucianism, Christianity, politics and even K-Pop. G-Dragon fans highly encouraged.

It’s Fun
Where else besides the Asia Contemporary Art Show (room 4321 to be exact) are you going to be able to stand three inches away from Salvador Dali’s "Triumphant Elephant” or ogle a mid-century style portrait of a unicorn as it hangs over a bathtub (yes, this really happened). Nowhere! The Asia Contemporary Art Show gives you unprecedent access to both artist and art, far away from the maddening crowds of Art Central or Art Basel. It’s more intimate, and if you’re patient, you might find your new favourite piece in one of the many rooms. If not, you’ll still walk away with a few notable celebrity sightings.
