Artist Alan Chan’s first ever solo exhibition ‘WHO IS ALAN CHAN?…a journey of art since 1960s’ has opened at Whitestone Gallery. It’s a chronological selection of Chan’s works from the last five decades, many of which are being displayed for the first time. Chan is a Hong Kong creative whose practice spans advertising, design and branding, and the show shows his journey and development over time. It starts with his earlier graphic design and flows through to more modern approaches like ‘iEye-ai’ iPhone photography series from 2012.

‘WHO IS ALAN CHAN?…a journey of art since 1960s’ is at Whitestone Gallery Hong Kong until 27 February, 2019

You can feast your eyes on another first this month at Opera Gallery. Their hosting Feng Xiao-Min’s first Hong Kong solo exhibition, which runs through the end of February. Feng is known for celebrating the fusion of Eastern aesthetics and Western techniques that depict landscapes in dusk and dawn. His focus is on the powerful effect of blending colours and creating harmonious pieces. Using his training in traditional Chinese calligraphy, he uses acrylic on canvas to mimic the look of ink on paper. The collection, ‘Inspired Resonance’ features a total of 27 large-scale ethereal paintings created between 2013 – 2018. Excitingly, 20 of the pieces have never been displayed before, so this is your chance to see them before anybody else!

David Zwirner is celebrating all new works by legendary Canadian-born artist Marcel Dzarma. The ‘Crossing the Line’ exhibit, which runs until March,  features drawings, dioramas and even a film. Dzama rose to prominence in the 1990s with an immediately recognizable visual language that blurs the relationship between the real and the subconscious. Drawing from folk vernacular as well as art history and modern-day events, Dzama creates a universe of the otherworldly, like snapshots from fairy tales. The exhibit will take up two floors of the gallery and will show imagery inspired by the artist’s recent trip to Hong Kong.

‘Crossing the Line’ is at David Zwirner until 9 March, 2019
