Celebration in Lan Kwai Fong? Why Not?

While we’re no substitute for a trained Feng Shui master or astrologer – we did consult the experts when we rounded up this guide of the luckiest drinks for your zodiac sign. Every year, each animal has auspicious colours that are meant to bring in good fortune to the wearer. We teamed these up with some of our favourite bars and found you the good-luck cocktail guide to the Year of the Rat.

Read on to find out what you should be drinking in 2020, based on your zodiac animal.

Rat

Born: 1972, 1984, 1996

Be careful this year, Rats! If you’re born under the sign of the rat, this is your zodiac year. Legend has it that a zodiac year brings bad luck and greater challenges. But challenges can pave the way for growth and opportunity, if you’re careful. Play it extra safe and order drinks in your extra-lucky colours this year. Red and gold are the colours to surround yourself with, dear Rats. Think red sangria, Negroni or a beautiful whisky-based drink– a perfect highball from The ThirtySix Bar & Co should do it!

Ox

Born: 1973, 1985, 1997

Hard-working Oxen have a bright year ahead – 2020 should bring them luck, success and financial stability. Which is a good thing too, because an unlucky Ox is a grumpy Ox – and no one wants to deal with that all year long. Those born under the sign of the Ox should gravitate towards their lucky colours of green, white and pink. Head to J. Boroski and tell them that you need a viridescent cocktail for good fortune, and see what they come up with!

Tiger

Born: 1974, 1986, 1998

2020 is a black and blue year for noble Tigers, but that’s no bad thing! Instead of bruises, think strong and sophisticated – just like someone born to the Tiger zodiac. Passionate, brave, dynamic and complex, Tiger’s a drink to match their incredible personalities. Try a Fernet & Coke at Buenos Aires Polo Club.

Rabbit

Born: 1975, 1987, 1999

Lovely Rabbits, this will be a good year for you. Your tender hearts will be supported by the people who love you, and there may even be a promotion on the horizon – especially if you embrace your lucky hues of the year: dark blue and pink. For a delightfully delicate (and blush-coloured) tipple, head to Foxglove to enjoy a Self-Portrait. It’s inspired by the ‘dissents in the human mind’, and made with sweet peach, sour lemon and a gentle hit of ginger.

Dragon

Born: 1976, 1988, 2000

Beautiful, bold, strong and passionate, Dragons are basically the bosses of the zodiac. And this year, they’re only getting better, because the Rat is bringing them luck, money and (and even more) recognition from their superiors. Live 2020 to the max with deep reds, yellows and gold – your lucky colours. Negroni is a great drink for this year, but if you prefer something lighter, try ORIGIN’s Super Lemon cocktail, made with lemon gin and lemon sorbet, topped with a Super Lemon candy.

Snake

Born: 1977, 1989, 2001

Those born under the Snake should prepare to shed their skins – because 2020 promises major life changes for the most cunning of signs. Known for their wisdom, Snakes will learn even more this year, about themselves and the world around them. If you’re planning a big life change, this is your moment! Make sure to get the best outcome possible, by embracing as much light blue and lovely greens as possible. On the cocktail front, an ironic Blue Lagoon or Bath-tub Rum Sour would complement your humorous nature, but they’re hard to find these days. Instead, opt for an elegant mint julep. Havana Bar in Lan Kwai Fong makes a mean one, packed with fresh mint.
